You’re Not Behind on Your Own Life

God’s not surprised by where you are, and He certainly hasn’t taken His hand off you. …

I’ve been thinking so much about how we’re already into February and I bet a lot of us feel like we’re already “behind” this year.

Do you feel like that?

We haven’t launched forward in our business or workplace.

We haven’t lost the 100 pounds in January that we wished we could have. (Yes, I’m being a bit dramatic… A girl can do that, right?)

We haven’t kept up with our Bible reading like we’d hoped.

If that’s you, I don’t think you’re alone.

Don’t worry – just keep pressing on in whatever your hopes and goals are.

But what about that feeling like you’re behind on your own life…?

  • “I should be further along by now…”
  • “I should have more money in savings…”
  • “I should be higher up the ladder at work…”
  • “I should be better at setting boundaries by now…”
  • “I should have written that book by now…”

You know what I mean, don’t you?

I’m writing this letter to you, but it’s also a note I need for myself.

We’re not too different, you and me.;)

No wonder we get along so well!

Here’s where I think both of our hearts are, though:

We just want to know that this whole thing is going to work out right.

Is that a fair guess?

If not, tell me what you’re thinking. 💌

I certainly don’t have all the answers and I don’t know just how everything will work out, but I do know this:

God’s not surprised by where you are, and He certainly hasn’t taken His hand off you.

We all go through times when our minds want to mess with us and make us spin.

But the question is:

“What’s our ‘steady’?

What’s the thing that has the power to grab us by the shoulders and reset us, firmly, and get our mind focused in the right direction?

This is where we have to lean on God and His Word.

For us, this is non-negotiable.

We believe that what God has to say is true, no matter how we feel, right?

And with that, when we’re ready to lose heart because we feel behind on our own life, we have to choose to lean into the Scriptures.

It’s not about how we feel, but about what God says.

I encourage you to open your Bible and read Ecclesiastes 3 for yourself, but here’s a snippet:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” (3:11)

It’s important that you know, God’s not bailing on His commitment to making everything right.

He is working it out, right here and right now.

In you and through you.

And, straight-up: it doesn’t matter how perfect we think some seasons of life may be, we’ve all lived long enough to know there will always be something in our hearts that long for more.

Why?

Because this isn’t Heaven, and we aren’t Home yet.

I say all that to say this:

If you’re reading this, that means you have breath in your lungs. And it means that God isn’t done with you yet.

Don’t lose hope.

Keep leaning on Him and His Word.

Call out to Him in prayer (like, OUT LOUD if that’s what you need to make sure He hears you. ;) )

Borrow the psalmist’s words-

“I remain confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living.”

Psalm 27:13

He’s still doing good work, and that includes in you.

Hold fast to Him and hide His Word in your heart, so when your mind wants to mess with you, hit the reset button and call out the Truth.

God’s not done.

You’re not behind.

You’re on the way…

On the way with you,

Amanda
